Want to learn more about something that all the big DJ’s have had to deal with, but see it from a point of view very truly, experienced and lived. Steve Lawler features in new documentary, The Art Of The DJ. Directed by Piers Sanderson, a British filmmaker best-known for 2010's High On Hope, take the camera and start filming in a very interesting 80 minute biopic charts the highs and lows of the UK artist's career with the speech of the big names on the scene like Carl Cox, Danny Whittle and more.
WARNING: This film contains explicit material that may not be appropriate for viewers of all ages. Its very hard to script reality. With most documentaries you don’t know what you are going to get until you start filming and this documentary was no exception. I was blown away with just how honest Steve was on camera and I know this film is going to shock a few people. Not only did we catalogue exactly what the happened when dance music became a global business but we also delved into important themes like ‘what happens when you finally achieve what you have worked so hard for? How will you react when you have 10,000 people screaming your name?’ it sounds great but the reality is that very few of us are really prepared for fame. I am pretty sure this is something that all the big DJ’s have had to deal with it but I am yet to find record of anyone else being honest enough to talk about it.
This film or documentary, The Art Of The DJ, brings out a really understood true, what, where did they come from and where are this going the next chapter in dance music's journey, using Lawler's career to chart the transition from the underground to the mainstream. Starting in Birmingham, the documentary takes al sides in Lawler's earliest rave experiences, his successes in Ibiza and his subsequent problems with drugs and been a super star. Alongside candid interviews with Lawler and those closest to him, this documentary is a must in your list if you are truly in the scene.
